THE WEEKEND

VITALITY & VISION is a 3-day retreat and adventure experience in Joshua Tree, CA.

Here’s how each day will unfold…

  • Wake up with the sunrise, then spend the day in Joshua Tree National Park, exploring hidden, rarely-visited corners of the desert.

  • Go rock climbing with a local guide, pushing your edges in an iconic and historic climbing destination.

  • Open your senses to deeper connection with the wild, through guided hikes and group practices.

  • Watch the stunning desert sunset, with a warm drink in hand.

  • Return to a beautiful home 5 minutes from the park entrance.

  • Connect with an inspiring community through ecstatic dance, improv games, and deep conversations by the fire pit.

Conscious Leadership

Drawing from the Conscious Leadership Group, we’ll explore practices to work with difficult recurring patterns, take more creative ownership over our lives, and find more energy through deeper integrity.

Reciprocal Connection With Nature

Inspired by the Animas Valley Institute, we’ll open ourselves to deeper connection with the natural world. Through guided practices in remote corners of the desert, we’ll reconnect with our inner wildness in the external wilderness.

Movement & Embodiment

Rock climbing, ecstatic dance, morning yoga, and guided hikes through the desert will leave you feeling loose, strong, and connected.

THE CURRICULUM

YOUR GUIDE

Dom Francks

Dom is a wilderness guide and leadership coach.

He’s led wilderness immersions in remote locations including Patagonia and Alaska, and has held leadership roles at climate-tech companies, serving as Chief of Staff at Terramera and Head of Product at Solara Energy.

His orientation to the animate world is inspired by the Animas Valley Institute, where he trained in the Yearlong Soulcraft Immersion.

Dom is on a mission to foster regenerative leadership, focusing on personal vitality and ecological harmony. He empowers individuals to live and lead in ways that enhance their own aliveness and presence and create a deep and harmonious relationship with the more-than-human world.

"Dom is one of a rare breed of men that is as skilled at exploring external landscapes as he is internal landscapes. His emotional awareness and attunement helped me to find insight into parts of my own nature and soul I hadn't yet traversed, and to reconnect to my deeper purpose."

ARIAN MAHINI
Lead AI Negotiation Advisor, Rora

"When I started working with Dom, I was feeling burned out and overwhelmed, and was seeking more embodied presence and balance. Through our work, I reconnected with my sense of self, my sense of strength, and my spirit. He helped me to show up more fully for myself and to lead more authentically and compassionately. Dom guided me back to connection with wildness and the natural world, something I was sorely missing. I recommend working with Dom to anyone who has a profound sense of mission, and wants to honor their love of things wild.

FAQ

  • What will the accommodation be like?

  • We’ll be staying in a beautiful home set up for large groups. Leading up to the retreat, we’ll reach out to attendees to organize sleeping arrangements - everyone will have their own bed, but it may be necessary to share a room.

  • What kind of food will we be eating?

Breakfast will consist of a buffet, and lunch will be a sandwich spread that we’ll take into the park. Dinners will be prepared for you, and will be healthy and diverse.

  • What’s the deal with the rock climbing?

We’re partnering with Mojave Guides, a highly-regarded guiding service in Joshua Tree, for a half-day of single pitch climbing. No rock climbing experience is needed. All climbs will be set up by certified guides, and Mojave Guides will provide basic required equipment. If you have your own climbing shoes, harness, chalk bag, and/or helmet, bring it!

  • When should I arrive and depart?

Please arrive Friday from 5-6:30 PM. Our opening circle will be at 7 PM. We’ll officially close Monday morning at 9 AM. Though these are our official start and close times, it’s ok if you need to arrive late or depart early.

  • What level of fitness and experience is required?

You should be able to walk 2 miles comfortably, with mild elevation gain and loss. The rock climbing portion is optional, and we’ll provide other options for hiking or journaling practices for that portion. No rock climbing experience is needed.

  • What will the weather be like?

In February, the average high is 66°F, and the low is 41°F. Come prepared for chilly mornings and evenings, and moderate daytime temperatures.

  • What should I bring?

We’ll send out a full packing list ahead of the retreat, but mostly just basic hiking shoes, athletic clothing, a journal, and whatever you’d normally bring for a weekend away.
